Watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes a while back and thought; what the fuck, I never knew there was a place like John Muir Woods in our hood so close?? So what do any chimps do when they see other chimps running free? Dammit they go there and they explore for themselves! Took a detour on the way there, picked up some banana’s, got there late but we made it. Weather was chilly but tolerable, crowd was small and the trees were huge. There’s a man-made trail/boardwalk that would break any tree-huggers heart. It guides you through a ‘safe’ path of safe viewing of nothing but foliage. There are some off trail hikes you can take; one leads to a beach that was closed the times we went, another leads to a campsite that I am sure would take about 3 hours to get to on foot. It was a beautiful site. Took a friendly hike off trail, had a race down the boardwalk, hid in some huge ass trees, jumped over huge ass logs, banged our chests in animal fury and reenacted a famous youtube video on fallen tree trunk.
