All Art Is A Kind Of Confession…

It helps you express things without really using words. Whether it’s ‘I Love You’, ‘I Hate You’, ‘Clean This Shit Up’, ‘Let’s Tear This Shit Up’, ‘Shut The Fuck Up’, ‘My Mind Is Too Crazy or Maybe Too Lazy’… Whatever you want to say you can. It can be messy, sloppy, no rhyme or reason, just call it art and there you have it…

But then there are those special instances when you see something so beautiful it makes you want to shed a single tear, burst with laughter, fill up with envy, pride, inspiration, motivation, all the ‘ations. I have found a few of those that I thought I would share with you; my fellow homeboys.

This is the kinda shit right here that makes me wish I woulda thunk it.

When You Do It Like This…Losin’ Ainta Option!

Life changes all the time. Everyone goes through different phases at different intervals. Our lives this time last year was completely different than it is this year and we are very fortunate and humbled for all the love and support we have been getting from folks – old & young alike.

I start on a positive note because I am about to get real serious right now. I fucken hate folding shirts. There is so much that goes into it. Lining it up right so you display the design properly. Keeping the creases crispy & straight so they don’t end up wrinkled in the package. Finding the right lighting, quality control, back support, and most importantly finding good music to DJ your task at hand. After about 30-40 shirts into it, I take a mandatory lap around the house and grab a drink, preferably coffee, take a sip or a shit and get back to the grind. It’s moments like these that I kinda wish I still had that horrible nasty habit that 9 times outta 10 result in speaking like a robot through your throat.

What I am trying to say is, each shirt is hand-folded by a child in modern day slave conditions. No, not really.

With the festival coming up and the release of our new summer line, we have been diligently folding & increasing standards of quality control. We pride ourselves in the attention to detail we adhere to because really that’s all you have. The amount of time dedicated to our shirt process might be ridiculous to others but imperative to us.

Not only will we have both the PR x RR line along with our summer line, we will also have for sale The Cali Series by Arte Urquidi, Necklaces fashioned by Jodi Mascarenas (you read right! she has worked extremely hard to bring us some dope shit for your neck!), decals, stickers, high fives & hugs! Stop by our booth by the youth stage OR get it all online after Saturday.

Thanks for reading. You know who you are.

And if you are really down you will head over and join us after the party to the after party at the Agenda where the fun will more than likely continue until the wee hours of the morning.

Big Cartel…

Fuck a CSS & an HTML code. I can truly say my hatred for both is pretty much equally divided. One little period, alligator mouth, comma, or colon out of place and the whole thing goes ape shit. Besides the fact that I don’t speak Geek, I have no damn patience for things that need to be broken down and individually isolated with the correct amount of spacing in order to have a scroll down menu that is black and in Helvetica font.

Using standard templates almost suck just as bad because there is always one little detail about a particular template that the author clearly missed and it doesn’t sit right or looks off or is too small or is just doing that shit on purpose so you can say fuck it and settle. To make something function easily should be made easier to do. Making shit flow is imperative; it has to flow. Colors, pictures, text, rhymes – all must flow.

As long as it functions and doesn’t look like a drunk retard designed it than I can move about to my next task frivolously.

With that being said, be a pal and check out our new & (depending on who you are and your level of ‘hate’) improved Big Cartel site. I managed to add on the Cali Love Series on there as well as our lovely Bows. Our decals should be up tomorrow. Please be sure to check in tomorrow too cause we have a little something special planned. And really, who doesn’t like special?

Prestige Worldwide… Cali Love Series!

It has been said that when you put your mind to something, there is a chance you might go far. There is also a chance you might get distracted and start watching TV instead. We like to stay away from option B as best we can and turn our heads from inviting remote controls with their tempting vices that promise we can watch whatever we want to watch whenever we want to watch it. NO!

Instead, we surf the net, find cool shit, talk cool shit, and sometimes try and collaborate cool shit with cool people. Our brother’s from another mother have done us an honor in painting the Cali Series. We shot the idea over, and homie took it to a level we couldn’t have ever imagined.

Painted on canvases handcrafted by carpenters who just so happen to be prison inmates at a Bolivian prison, El Abra. Adding flaws, texture, history, & a one-of-a-kindness you really couldn’t get in any other series today. Hand-painted w/ oils and other forms of mixed media.

You can head over to The Facebook page and peep the progression

But here is a little re-cap w/ notes from our esteemed artist, Alex Urquidi.

“Being a South American artist I had to place Brazil in the mix due to the love and hospitality we south Americans have. Brazil is a BLAST OF COLOR, a hot weathered ambient, a HUGE HEART. It is HAPPINESS, LOVE, SOUND, LOUDNESS, SUNSHINE, DANCE, It is the fire starter of LATIN AMERICA. IT’s BRAZIL!!!!”

“The word alone is synonymous with crime. But for us artists who come from the streets, it’s the most brutal art form, The truest. It is done for the LOVE of art because most times it is done for without compensation. It is the poetry of the streets, the flowers of the concrete jungle, a voice for a unheard people. GRAFFITI tells a story in every spray.”

“Japan was chosen in representation of all ASIANS in California. A culture made of honor and pride and rich in it’s arts. Tattoos are in every painting of the series, and you cannot have one without the other. Japan has created and invented some of the most amazing body art ever seen. I personally LOVE Japanese art and have allowed it to influence me entirely. I always go back to it for new inspiration.”

“California is Mexico. There is not one person in Cali who doesn’t know a word of Spanish. It’s the seasoning of the Californian culture. For more than one reason I had to put it in the series. Its colors and traditions are engraved in every in inch of California.”

“Jamaica is a country so full of sound, color and passion that it could not be left out of a series that symbolizes LOVE. For many it represents freedom, screams out peace, it makes you move your body to their reggae BEATS. IN 1 WORD SUMMED UP – Jamaica = LOVE! The image of Robert ‘BOB’ Nesta Marley alone symbolizes HOPE for a better tomorrow & fills the spirit with LOVE……”

“Without the bay I wouldn’t exist as the person I am today. My time there exposed me to all its CHARMS. GOOD ONES AND BAD ONES. But that’s how we are cut in the bay. A true Californian has lived life to the fullest. It’s an abyss of so many cultures that it boils up to a DEVINE PLACE. One can almost be everywhere in the world being in just one place. I LOVE MY BAY AREA and all its people and what each one has to offer. I AM A PERSON WHO NEVER FORGETS WHERE I CAME FROM.

The entire series came together as a THANK YOU to California, to good friends, to an experience lived in my past. Furthermore, as a thank to all that has occurred in my life. A gratefulness to be able to do my art and to have achieved and become the person and artist that I am. It’s ALL FOR THE LOVE FOR ART………”
